FORT HOOD - Police have added a new program to help create a safer community on post.
Fort Hood Directorate of Emergency Services has launched tip411, an Internet-based tool that enables the public to text message an anonymous tip to police. Officers are able to respond back, creating a two-way anonymous "chat."
"There's always the risk of somebody being afraid of reporting something if they've been a victim," Community Policing supervisor Capt. Jonathan Caylor said. "This is absolutely one of those programs where you don't have to be ashamed, you don't have to feel like somebody is gonna scrutinize what's going on in your life."
It's reserved exclusively for public safety. Tip411 puts a powerful crime-fighting tool into the hands of anyone with a text-enabled cell phone.
"The more ownership that the public takes in making Fort Hood a safe place, the safer we all are," Caylor said.
Soldiers, civilian workers, and family members at Fort Hood can now send anonymous tips to Fort Hood Police by texting the word "DES" and the tip information to 847-411 (tip411).
Community members should still dial 911 in case of an emergency.
