MCLENNAN COUNTY - A McLennan County man faced charges Thursday for playing too rough with his infant son resulting in several fractures in the infant's body.

According to an arrest affidavit from West Police, the two-and-a-half month-old boy suffered 12 fractures at the hands of his father, Juan Francisco Ortiz, 29, in mid-August.

West Police initially charged Ortiz with Injury to a Child on August 31st. He was booked in to the McLennan County Jail the same day, and he's currently being held without bond on an immigration detainer. On Thursday, West Police charged Ortiz with an additional count of Injury to a Child, a 2nd degree felony.

The arrest affidavit detailed how Ortiz would "exercise" his baby's legs, "which in turn caused fractures." It also described how Ortiz wrapped the child in a blanket and held him down with his hands so the child couldn't move.

The boy also suffered fractures to his arms, shoulders and ribs. The affidavit said detectives showed pictures of the boy's injuries to Ortiz, who reportedly admitted he was responsible.

The baby received treatment at McLane's Children's Hospital in Temple in late August.  The boy was treated for a broken arm, but doctors apparently noted "13 older fractures on his arms, legs, shoulder and rib areas."

Child Protective Services have been involved in the case.
