TROY - A TxDOT contractor uncovered bone fragments and coffin hardware from two unmarked graves late August.
It happened late August, in the vicinity of the old Elm Creek Bridge, along the southbound I-35 frontage road in Troy at Roberts Cemetery.
Per the I-35 Expansion Project contract provisions, a TxDOT staff archaeologist was on site during this work and stopped further excavation at that location. Contractors will continue construction work in a different location, pending further discovery.
"If there are more out there, we want to find them and we want to get them relocated so they're out of our project area
Experts said they don't know how old the bones are, but experts said they've been buried there since before the 1930's.
If you know who the remains belong to, or think you may have an idea, you're asked to call TxDOT's Ken Roberts at 254-867-2705.
