WACO - Waco Independent School District was forced to lock down a middle school Tuesday afternoon while police searched for a robbery suspect in the area.
The robbery happened around 2:30 p.m. at Sammy's Food Mart on the 3600-block Bagby Ave. in Waco.
Police say the suspect went in the store and pointed a gun at the store clerk before he demanded money from the register. According to police, the man is short and thin and was last seen wearing black pants, a black shirt, and a baseball hat.
Before police arrived to the convenience store the robber took off on foot towards Valley Mills Dr.
Nearby Waco ISD Ceaser Chavez Middle School was forced to go under a moderated lock down because of the direction the suspect headed. When school got out at 4:00 p.m. students were either allowed to get on the bus, with police standing nearby, or ride home with their parents.
The middle school lifted the lock down around 5:00 p.m. because police no longer believed the suspect was in the area.
Waco ISD officials say that Kendrick Elementary School, which is also near where the robbery happened, was not locked down because police did not believe the school was threatened since the suspect fled in the opposite direction.
Police have not yet located the suspect and anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact Waco Crime Stoppers. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
Waco Police were not able to confirm the amount of money the suspect stole.
