HARKER HEIGHTS – A mobile home in Harker Heights was destroyed, Tuesday, in what fire officials believe to be an arson.
For the second time in five days, a home along the 100 block of East Ball Road caught fire.
The first blaze occurred on Friday morning at 10:43 a.m..
Investigators said the fire looked suspicious because all utilities were shut off and the fact that there were multiple points of origin.
Fire fighters were able to contain the flames to the living room portions of the home.
Samples were taken and sent to the DPS lab in Austin to determine if flammable liquids were used.
A second fire at the mobile home was called in around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, this time the flames engulfed the entire home.
Leslie Russell, who lives just a few doors down, said it felt like déjà vu.
"Friday it looked like it was inside of the house but this morning it looked like someone had poured gasoline and just set it all up.
Everything was on fire. When I came outside everything was on fire and it was above those trees catching those on fire," Russell said.
Russell didn't recall anyone besides the salvage workers at the home.
Kat and her husband Mike work for the company who were cleaning up the property and looking to sell the scrap parts.
"Friday it was just a little bit of damage there was still a lot in the trailer that we could recycle. There's nothing right now reusable," Kat said.
The homeowner said she was in the process of moving out because the city had condemned the trailer.
She was going to pick up the last of her items today but said she lost it all in the fire, including a family heirloom.
Investigators said they do have a person of interest and are working to obtain a warrant.
