WACO- A wreck on I-35 northbound on Saturday afternoon led to several other crashes, one involving a fire truck.
Five people were hospitalized for the chain-reaction wrecks along the same stretch of highway.
The first accident happened during rain showers and low visibility around 1:00 p.m. near Exit 338.
Once Waco fire fighters blocked off a portion of the highway with their fire engine, another car failed to slow down and smashed into the truck. No fire fighters were inside and officials say they are lucky the car only hit the truck and not the crew ahead on the shoulder of the highway.
Five other people who went to the hospital suffered injuries not expected to be life-threatening, according to Waco Assistant Fire Chief Chris Pechacek.
