Fairfield community reacts to sex assault scandal

By Danielle Skinner

FREESTONE--A community is shaken after learning that a preacher and a high school volleyball coach both face horrifying allegations involving a 15-year-old girl.

Pastor Anthony Lynn Thibodeaux was arrested last Friday and LaDonna Bracken turned herself in yesterday. Both are charged with sexual assault and indecency with a child.

"What hurts me is I've been knowing him since he was a little child and I encouraged him a lot as a young man," said church member Robert Ross.

After the Pastor's arrest investigators also put LaDonna Brackens behind bars, she turned herself in yesterday. Authorities believe the alleged crime happened at her residence. Though she faces the same charges as Thibodeaux, it's still unknown how brackens participated in the alleged crime.

Like Thibodeaux, Brackens also has several ties to the community and the church. She worked for Fairfield ISD and coached both the basketball and volleyball teams.

The school district did not respond to any questions today about whether she's still employed by the district.

Residents like Linda Mooney who says the allegations are unbelievable, especially for a town like Fairfield.

"You live in this little community and when this hits us it means nobody is protected," said Mooney.

Although Fairfield may be distraught, the people who live here just want the truth.

"It breaks my heart because out of all the time in history we need the church, is now."

Brackens was able to make her $500,000 bond. Thibodeaux is out on bond too, after his bail was reduced today from half a million dollars to $100,000. He must stay away from children and is still allowed on his church's property--Fairfield Missionary Baptist.
