WACO - Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has announced that US Senator Paul Ryan will be his Vice Presidential running mate.
After the decision was announced Saturday morning, many Texas Republicans offered their support for the Romney-Ryan campaign.
The Waco Tea Party believes Ryan was a great choice for Romney because they say he negates Romney's portrayed image of a wealthy conservative who does not connect with blue-collar Americans.
"[Ryan] has worked his way through college. He lost his father at a young age. He knows how to work his way through adversity and he knows how to fight his way through something," said Toby Marie Walker, a Waco Tea Party representative. "I think he'll help Romney with those segment of voters."
The Waco group also believes Ryan will help Romney land more of the independent voters in the November election, which they believe could make the difference. They also feel Ryan is one of the country's top politicians when it comes to dealing with fiscal policies.
Current US Senate candidate Ted Cruz offered his support for Ryan in a statement saying, "Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will lead an administration that brings fiscal responsibility back to Washington."
Former US President George W. Bush and Texas Gov. Rick Perry also issued statements giving their endorsement for the Romney-Ryan campaign.
