FORT HOOD- The 18-month-old baby of a Fort Hood family is dead after walking out into traffic on Saturday night, according to officials on post.
Officials said the baby entered traffic at the in-bound side of the Bernie Beck Gate shortly after 10:00 on Saturday night, and a pick-up truck struck him.
Emergency crews rushed the baby to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials are investigating the case and they have not released the names of the baby or his parents. They have also withheld the family's positions on post, referring only to them as a Fort Hood family.
Col. Matthew Elledge, Fort Hood's garrison commander, released the following statement: "On behalf of our Fort Hood family, I offer my sincere condolences to the family who lost their child in this tragic incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with this family in their time of sorrow."
