Two killed, one severely injured in early morning car accident

WACO- Two people are dead and another person is in the hospital after an early morning traffic accident in Waco.

According to police, officers responded to the 2400 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. just after 2:00 a.m. to a traffic accident with injuries.

At the scene, officers learned that Eric Wardell, a 28-year-old from McLennan County, was speeding in his 2003 Ford Mustang when he lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. The accident caused the vehicle to catch fire.

Stephanie Perez, a 22-year-old woman from Garland, who was in the back seat of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eric Wardell and 23-year-old passenger Dustin Wardell, also of McLennan County, were rushed to Hillcrest Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Eric Wardell was pronounced dead at the hospital.
