WACO-Mclennan county has a new tax assessor collector tonight. Waco CPA and former Waco city councilman Randy Riggs won 58 percent of the votes--
Jeff Nickell got 42 percent.
Riggs says he's honored to be elected to serve. It was a long campaign and he's relieved it's over.
For weeks he's been working hard to get more supporters to the polls. Despite their different backgrounds both men say they are just as qualified to be the county's tax assessor.
A Baylor business graduate, Randy Riggs is a certified public accountant who was on the Waco city council for 10 years and also serves on the Waco finance and audit committee. His opponent--Jeff Nickell was a long time Waco police officer. He retired back in 2004.
He was able to force the run-off election with Riggs, but the voters have spoken.
"This has been one of the longest campaigns in Mclennan county history and I am thankful that it is coming to an end," Riggs said. "I am pleased that we are in the position that we are in right now. I plan to bring honor and integrity back to the office and make the citizens of Mclennan county proud of the tax assessor collectors."
The former tax assessor/collector, Buddy Skeen was indicted twice for theft. There is no Democrat running for the job, so it automatically will go to Riggs.
