HARKER HEIGHTS - We now know the name of the man that was killed after crashing his truck during a police chase early Saturday morning.
Just after 2 a.m., a Harker Heights police officer tried pulling over the driver of a pick-up truck that was swerving and speeding in the 300 block of Indian Trail Drive.
At first the truck started to slow down as if the driver were pulling over, but instead he sped off. Eventually the driver sped down Amy Lane and then turned onto East Robin Lane, where he veered off the road and struck a tree in the 200 block of East Robin Lane.
The impact punctured the gas tank of the truck and the vehicle caught on fire, but fire fighters quickly put out the flames.
28-year-old Timothy Stevens of Fort Hood, who was behind the wheel, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been ordered.
