COPPERAS COVE - The soldier that was killed after being struck by a train Thursday morning has been identified as Nicholas Paul Webb, a 28-year-old Copperas Cove resident.

A conductor for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad contacted the Copperas Cove Police Department at 4:27 a.m. on Thursday to report possibly running over a body that was on the tracks.

Police responded to the railroad tracks located between Main and 1st Street to find Webb dead beneath the railcars.

Joe Faust, the spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad said Webb was not struck at a regular crossing.

The train was westbound on its way from Houston to Slaton, Texas when the accident occurred. Major railroad crossings in Copperas Cove were closed off until approximately 8:30 a.m. as a result.
