LACY LAKEVIEW - An early morning fire injured two women and killed a family dog on Sunday.

Fire crews from Lacy Lakeview, Chalk Bluffs and Elm Mott arrived at the home in the 200 block of Standfield around 1:45 on Sunday morning, but the flames had already injured an 83-year-old woman and her 60-year-old daughter, killed a dog and destroyed most of the house.

The 60-year-old woman was reportedly lying on the couch and smoking when the couch went up in flames. Her mother who tried to help her received second-degree burns to her back while the daughter suffered minor burns to her shoulder.

The flames heavily damaged the kitchen and living room, and smoke damage was spread throughout the house. The fire department called the house a total loss.

The family is currently staying with relatives in West.
