WACO- The elderly woman who police say was hit by a car driven by her daughter in the parking lot of a Waco mental health clinic last month has since died, but officials are not yet sure if injuries from the alleged assault are to blame for her death.
Marguerite Lehrmann, 76, died on July 13, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, just weeks after the incident on June 28, when her daughter, 53-year-old Gail Lehrmann Smith allegedly hit her mother intentionally at the M.H.M.R. Crisis Care Clinic in the 1200 block of Clifton St. in Waco.
Police say Smith then fled in the Rav 4, leaving her mother on the ground, before returning more than an hour later, when police arrested her at the lobby of the clinic.
Lehrmann suffered serious head injuries that police said could be life-threatening.
Justice of the Peace Fernando Villarreal confirmed that he made Lehrmann's death pronouncement but said it could be months before an autopsy provides an official cause of death. Until then, officials are unsure whether or not the alleged assault caused her death.
Smith remains in McLennan County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence). Her charge could be changed or enhanced if the autopsy results confirm a connection to the July 28 incident.
