CORYELL COUNTY - More than 100 animals were seized from a home Thursday morning.
The Coryell County Sheriff's Officer executed a warrant for Animal Seizure on a property located on Greenleaf Drive, off Highway 116, just north of Copperas Cove. Authorities seized horses, cattle, goats, donkeys and pigs.
They said the animals were found living in unsanitary conditions. After more than a month, investigators saw little or no improvement and said they had no choice but to seize the animals.
Workers reported taking at least 34 horses, 10 cows, 7 donkeys, 54 goats, and 3 pigs. Several dogs and cats were also seen roaming the property.
The alleged owner of the animals named in the seizure warrant is Marijeta Medverec. Apparently, she owns Blue Heaven Farms. According to the website, Medverec provides riding lessons and boards horses on the property.
Many of the cattle appeared underweight, as their hip bones and ribs were clearly visible. Once brought to a holding area owned by the county just outside of Gatesville, the animals were fed and given plenty of water.
At this time, no criminal charges have been filed but the investigation is ongoing.
