Victim of Killeen fatal shooting identified

Posted:

KILLEEN - We now know the name of a man who was shot and killed outside a Killeen home earlier this week.

The victim has been identified as Ricky Dewayne Brandon, who was found dead in the yard of a home in the 1400 block of East Avenue G early Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the area at 1:43 a.m. that morning, after a resident called in and said they had heard shots fired in the area.

A neighbor who preferred to stay anonymous said he spotted a gunman running with a rifle near his home.

"I could actually see the rifle, he was running with it on his leg.  Maybe that's why he was scooching his feet.  It sounded like he was wearing flip-flops or house slippers.  He parked a white Suburban on the street, and took off before police got here.  I don't know if he was lost, but he circled around the block.  The gun looked like an M16 rifle," the witness said.

He described the suspect as a man wearing a black t-shirt, blue jean shorts, and house slippers or flip flops.

Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the victim deceased at 2:16 a.m., and ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have information about this shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 526-TIPS (8477) or go online at www.killeencrimestoppers.com or text KILLEEN along with the tip to 274637 (CRIMES).

All information is confidential and you can remain anonymous.  If your tip results in the arrest of the suspect or suspects responsible for this crime you could be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 in cash.
