WACO- At least two companies are down thousands of dollars after thieves stole expensive equipment from the construction site of a natural gas fueling station in the 2400 block of S. New Rd. late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
Arriving workers found a mobile storage unit smashed in and their tools missing around 6:30 a.m. Waco Police officers remained on the scene investigating for three hours, hoping surveillance video from the nearby Flying J gas station would provide a clear picture of the overnight scene.
Project supervisors for Daniel Utility Services and S.S.C. Electrical told News Channel 25 the suspects most likely used a universal key to operate a backhoe already on the property and plow through a fence and then the door of the storage unit. The companies lost at least a combined $25,000, with the loss of two large generators and electrical equipment such as band saws, a threader and a crimper.
One manager said he was scrambling to find the equipment and materials needed to continue the job, but the task was difficult on the July 4 holiday. He said their job would not likely be finished on schedule.
