KILLEEN - Last month, neighbors were complaining about a possible animal hoarding situation in Killeen. Now that 29 dogs have been seized from that property, neighbors are still complaining about the unkept yard.
Marvin Parks has lived in his home behind Regina Long's property for the last 5 years. He said the dogs have tried to attack his children, so he's boarded up the bottom of the fence to keep the animals out.
Although it took months for the paperwork to go through the courts, officers were finally able to seize dozens of Long's pets Thursday morning.
Many were covered in ticks and fleas, and several were trapped in the heat. Their crates were soiled with an abundance of dog feces where they were forced to sleep and eat.
Although Parks admitted it's a lot quieter without the dogs around, he said the grass that's about 3-feet-tall needs to be cut and the area needs to be sprayed for bugs.
"You walk over there, every square foot is nothing but trash," Parks said. "Bugs or four-feet snakes, if it's something, you're gonna find it. I already found a dead possum in my backyard."
He said the ticks and fleas have raided Long's property and is trickling into his. Parks said his children constantly come in the home with bite marks from insects, after being outside.
Long was arrested Thursday morning for animal cruelty, but bonded out of jail Friday afternoon.
