LIMESTONE COUNTY - Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens and Limestone County Deputies found the body Wednesday evening of a man who drowned in a boating accident on Lake Mexia.

Deputies were called about 10:45 a.m. by fishermen who said they saw the man in the boat, and then a short time later noticed the boat with the motor running was circling in the middle of the lake with no one aboard.

Rescue crews using sonar equipment on the Highway 84 side of the lake spotted an item of interest shortly after 5:00 p.m. Sheriff Dennis Wilson then confirmed the body matched the description of the missing man.

Sheriff Wilson said the 57-year-old victim had recently purchased the boat and had taken it on the water to test it.  Although a life vest was found on the boat, the victim was not wearing one.

His name has not yet been released.
