WACO (Original Story)- We now know the name of the two women who were in the SUV that reportedly slammed into a truck at speeds nearing or over 120 miles per hour Friday morning. The driver of the truck was killed and cannot be identified because the body was so badly burned after the truck burst into flames.
The driver of the SUV has been identified as 28-year-old Miranda Monique Campbell of Waco (listed as Miranda Jones when checked into McLennan County Jail on a previous arrest). The passenger riding along with her has been identified as 39-year-old Cindy Ann Murray, also of Waco.
Campbell had stopped at the police station earlier in the morning claiming to be upset about a previous arrest. She then started asking for water, and because she became unruly, an officer handcuffed her. Campbell was brought into records while the officer checked for warrants, and since there were none out for her arrest, she was released because the officer didn't believe she was under the influence of anything. Her friend had offered to drive her home.
Campbell then headed west onto Waco Drive in her White Mercury Mountaineer along with Murray. She was found a short time later after stopping in the road just a few blocks away from the station. An officer pulled up to her and asked her to continue driving. Before she proceeded, she again asked for a glass of water.
A short time later Campbell was spotted again stopped on Waco Drive at the corner of 18th Street at a traffic light. An officer again asked her to continue. Campbell asked for a drink of water for a 3rd time.
The next time the SUV was spotted, it had crashed into a Ford Ranger pick-up at the corner of 36th and Waco Drive. The victim's truck had rolled over and burst into flames. The truck's driver was killed.
Murray stated that Campbell was driving at speeds of 120 miles per hour.
The two women in the SUV were taken to Hillcrest for minor injuries. A criminal investigation is underway due to the high rate of speed.
The body of the deceased truck driver will be sent in for an autopsy to uncover the victim's identity, including the gender.
