WOODWAY - Midway ISD is putting together a plan that will cut $3.5 million dollars from their budget next year. Some of the district's plans resemble what Waco ISD is doing to recover from cuts in state funding.
Part of that plan includes holding public meetings and presentations, with a question and answer period at the end.
The district got rid of $3.2 million from their budget last year. The meetings will inform community members that the district will have to cut back even more than last year.
"This year we are going to feel it quite a bit more," said Public Information Operator Traci Marlin. "We had meetings with our staff yesterday, and we talked to our staff about the cuts and what to expect, and where we are expecting to reduce in the budget."
Late Thursday evening, Waco ISD board members were busy holding a workshop were they discussed more consolidations and closures. Board members are still debating on which options to choose from. After speaking with different administrators from both districts they all have one thing in mind.
"Ideally they would not feel a thing. Ideally our students would never notice anything happened because we would continue to be able to provide everything we have been providing for them," Marlin said.
Public meetings for Midway ISD will take place starting next week on Wednesday February 8th from 5 PM to 6 PM at the performing arts center, and February 9th at 7 PM in the MHS theatre.
