KILLEEN - A 28-year-old Killeen man has been arrested after being linked to more than a dozen local burglaries.
Officers arrested Robert Lee Walker Jr. Friday, after surveillance video showed him breaking into storage buildings and police found several stolen items in his jeep. Police say they found everything from stolen car stereos to car tires.
"They recovered several thousand dollars worth of property that was stolen between January 5 and the 28," Killeen Police Spokeswoman Carroll Smith said.
But police haven't been able to return the property to their rightful owners, because many victims are still deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Police responded to the Rancier Mini Storage located at 1003 N. 38th Street on January 24th after the manager found several storage units and vehicles that had been burglarized.
"He damaged the storage units going in and out," Smith said, "So they're felony type damages."
When officers arrived they spoke to the manager who showed them surveillance footage of a white Jeep Cherokee that had entered the gated facility and stolen from several vehicles and storage units.
Detectives also noted that the Bell Mini Storage located at 5904 E. Veteran's Blvd. had been burglarized earlier in the week.
A few days later, detectives located the white Jeep in the 1000 block on N. 10th Street. The suspect was also located along with property worth several thousands of dollars.
Robert Lee Walker Jr. has been charged with Burglary of a Building for the crimes. He is currently in the Bell County Jail on $50,000 bond.
Walker has also been linked to numerous burglaries of motor vehicles and buildings, as well as felony Criminal Mischiefs.
"It's shameful these scum bags get our here and prey on folks that are overseas," an employee who preferred not to be identified said.
