Car collides with passenger bus; driver flees

KILLEEN -  Police are investigating an accident where a car collided with a passenger bus then hit an 18-wheeler before the car's driver ran off.

The accident occurred on in the 1600 block of West Highway 190 on Sunday just after 7:00 p.m.

A charter bus occupied by 44 passengers and a driver was traveling east in the 1600 block of U.S. 190 in the inside lane when a white male driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring also traveling in the inside lane collided with the rear of the bus. The collision caused the Chrysler to hit the guardrail then come back onto the roadway colliding with an 18 wheeler also traveling east in the inside lane. Once all the vehicles were stopped the driver of the Chrysler Sebring fled on foot up the embankment.

The driver of the 18 wheeler was not injured, although there were some minor injuries reported by some of the occupants on the bus; those people were evaluated and treated and released by EMS personnel at the scene. There was extensive damage to the Chrysler Sebring and it is believed the driver is possibly injured from this accident.

The charter bus was traveling back to the Houston area after the group of ROTC students had visited Fort Hood earlier in the day. The bus was inoperative and the company was preparing another bus to come to Killeen to pick up the passengers; the group was told it would take approximately four hours to arrive in the Killeen area. The Killeen Police Department evacuation bus arrived at the accident scene to assist those passengers and transported them to the police headquarters.

The Chrysler Sebring has been reported as stolen. Anyone who has information about the suspect involved in this accident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 526-TIPS (8477) or go online at www.killeencrimestoppers.com or text KILLEEN along with the tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
