WACO (BREAKING): An arrest has been made in connection with the hit and run accident that left Tyrone Tyson Caldwell, a Waco Sheriff's Deputy in critical condition on Monday.

On Thursday, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Raymond Ross Mormino II for Aggravated Assault and Failure to Stop and Render Aid.

Mormino was later arrested at his home at 1001 Cloverleaf #9b in Bellmead. He is now in the McLennan County Jail.

The accident happened at Cameron Park in Waco when the driver of a red Ford Ranger pick-up truck ran into Caldwell as he was walking through the park that morning. Fortunately witnesses were able to get a description of the vehicle and call for help while they tried to keep Caldwell alive.

Caldwell was taken to Hillcrest Hospital where he is still in critical condition.

After the accident, the search began by land and air. Police searched for the suspect's vehicle which was believed to have significant damage on it's drivers side because a side mirror had fallen off as a result of the accident.

Police weren't the only ones searching either. A $1,000 reward was issued that over just a few days skyrocketed to $4,850 before police got a tip suggesting the whereabouts of the vehicle.

The anonymous tip led police to the suspect vehicle in Bellmead on Tuesday, getting them one step closer to catching the culprit.

The search finally brought police to Mormino, who was taken to jail without incident.

A benefit account has been set up to help pay for Caldwell's medical expenses. If you would like to donate please contact McLennan Co. Employees Federal Credit Union located at 215 N. 5th St. The name of the account is the Tyrone Caldwell Benefit account.
