Major accident in Temple shuts down part of Old Highway 95

TEMPLE – Police are investigating a major accident on Old Highway 95 – just south of South East HK Dodgen Loop involving two vehicles. Four people are hurt including an infant and a toddler after a near head-on collision with another car.

According to Temple Police, the accident happened Thursday afternoon around 4:20 p.m. The driver of a gray Pontiac traveling north on Old 95 at excessive speeds, lost control, and entered oncoming traffic on the two-lane roadway.  The Pontiac then struck a white Toyota sedan in an almost head-on collision. The impact caused major damage to both vehicles.

Four people were inside the white Toyota sedan. Emergency responders performed on-scene CPR to an infant child before the child was transported to the Scott and White Children's Hospital. An adult man and adult woman had to be extricated from the vehicle by Temple Fire and Rescue. The man was then taken to the Scott and White Hospital in serious condition. The woman and another 3-year-old child were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Pontiac was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash ignited a small grass fire which was quickly extinguished.  

Old Highway 95 is closed from SE HK Dodgen Loop to Blackland Research Road until investigators have gathered all the information they need.
