WACO- A 28-year-old mother who had been trying to turn her life around after years as a stripper died in a motorcycle accident Friday.

Dixie January was learning how to ride a motorcycle when she lost control and crashed on the 900 block of Martin Street, suffering fatal injuries, according to Waco Police.

Emily Mills says Jesus Said Love, the ministry she co-founded with her husband Brett, helped the mother-of-five steer her life in the right direction.  Members of a branch of the ministry, Jesus Loves Strippers, go to strip clubs once a month.  There they encourage dancers to bring God into their lives and make big life changes.

"We assured her that anyone can start over again and her life is a testimony that people can start over again," Mills says.

Mills says January began attending church and got engaged to be married.  She was to be baptized two days after her death, and a day later, she would be starting a new job at a clothing store.

At her memorial service at Grace Gardens, her friends agreed that everything she did was for her children.

"She was making some strides in her life and we were very proud of her and very excited for her and supportive of her in it," says Dawn Wible, a member of the ministry, who helped organize a baby shower for January three years ago.

John Skruck, January's former boss at Sonny's BYOB, says she was excited to be engaged.

"She was growing up, you know," Skruck says. "Everyone has to grow up and she was finally growing up."

"I have never seen someone fight so hard for the well being of their children given the circumstances that she often found herself in," Mills says.

Jesus Said Love is paying for January's funeral with community donations.  Currently the Mills have only received half of the $3,500 to $4,000 bill.  Any extra money that they receive will go toward school supplies for January's children.
