Fort Hood Soldier suing international phone company

WACO - Sgt. Richard Corder and his wife Dharma are suing international phone company BBG for charging outrageous fees to soldiers who use their phones to call home while overseas.

They filed the lawsuit last week and are seeking class certification, restitution and damages for contract, fraud and unjust enrichment.

In the lawsuit Sgt. Corder claims BBG charged him $41 to make a four-second phone call to his wife while he was deployed. He also claims that BBG did not disclose any of the charges.

Corder says he is suing on behalf of all U.S. troops who used BBG phones and where charged heavy fees for calling loved ones.

One of his lawyers, Jim Dunnam, says soldiers resort to using these phones because they don't have access to cell phones

"They really are in a captive situation if they don't have cell phones and want to call home...this is the only way they can. It is really reprehensible that someone would take advantage of these American soldiers in this manner," Dunnam said.

BBG has not yet responded or reached out to the soldiers and lawyers involved in this lawsuit. We tried to contact BBG ourselves and they would not comment.

News Channel 25 will continue to follow the lawsuit.
