Dangerous suspect arrested in North Texas

by Nate Bishop

WACO - Police have arrested the man accused of assaulting a North Texas police officer on July 30.

34-year-old Ruben Ortiz Jr. was wanted for allegedly punching the Euless officer in the face during a traffic stop.

According to police, Ortiz was acting very suspicious prior to the assault. When the female officer tried to handcuff Ortiz, he assaulted her.  That officer is still unable to return to work due to the injuries she suffered.

On Tuesday night, Ortiz was arrested in Grand Prairie after officers spotted him and his girlfriend, 37-year-old Nellie Ramos, in a motel parking lot. Ramos is a Waco native.

After a brief foot chase into a nearby neighborhood, officers were able to cordon off the area. They were found hiding in a shed.

Police say Ortiz is facing charges for a parole violation from an aggravated robbery, failure to appear on a DWI case, and now the aggravated assault on a police officer.

Ramos was arrested and charged with assisting Ortiz in eluding law enforcement.
