WACO - A Central Texas woman says she was attacked by bed bugs while staying at a Waco motel. Mary, who asked us not to reveal her identity, says her stay at the Motel 6 off I-35 in Waco has now cost her more than just the price of her room.

She told News Channel 25 she had never seen bed bugs before Monday. Now she has reminders of them all over her body. She says she woke up Monday with dozens of bed bugs biting her. "I jumped out of the bed and I started looking and they were everywhere," said Mary.

David Litke from the McLennan County Health District says pest control was already treating the motel room when the health inspector arrived, "The company did not find any live bed bugs, but they did see evidence of casings," said Litke. Casings are what bed bugs leave behind.

Litke says bed bugs aren't all that common here in Central Texas, but he's not surprised. "We do get a call every once in a while, but its primarily limited to hotels," he said.

Mary threw away everything she had with her at Motel 6 so the bugs didn't leave with her.

Litke says the motel is doing what they can to make sure all the bugs are gone,"Motel 6 and the pest control company are thoroughly checking the room," he said.

But Mary says next time, she will just check it out for herself, "Pull the covers back and really check it out. Don't let the bed bugs bite."

Mary left Motel 6 on Monday and for now plans on staying with her sister. The manager at the Motel 6 declined to comment to News Channel 25.
