Sports Minute: Here is the latest Texas sports news from The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) - Rougned Odor's grand slam capped a seven-run fourth inning and the Texas Rangers held off the Seattle Mariners 8-6 to make up ground in the playoff chase. The Rangers moved within 2½ games of Minnesota for the second AL wild card after the Twins lost 11-3 to the New York Yankees.

HOUSTON (AP) - Yuli Gurriel had three hits while Brad Peacock threw six solid innings and the Houston Astros extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox

HOUSTON (AP) - J.J. Watt brushed off the fact that he'll be playing against the New England Patriots on Sunday with a broken left ring finger. "It's not going to bother me too much. It's broken but not bad," he said wiggling the bandaged digit. "It's just a finger, if it was anything else it would be a problem."

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (AP) - A 19-year-old Midwestern State football player has died after suffering a neck injury while making a tackle during a home game last weekend. President Suzanne Shipley says the school is mourning the death of cornerback Robert Grays of Houston. Shipley says Grays died Tuesday. He was critically injured during a game Saturday in Wichita Falls.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson was all smiles as usual when he met with reporters for the first time since dislocating his left wrist in the season opener. He says it's been tough but he's been helped by the support of friends and family. There's no timetable for his return, but similar injuries have taken eight to 12 weeks.

(AP) - The Southeastern Conference coaches who entered the season facing questions about their job security haven't done much to quiet them. In fact, the heat from fans has intensified around coaches like Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin, Auburn's Gus Malzahn, Arkansas' Bret Bielema and Tennessee's Butch Jones. There's plenty of time for change _ good or bad.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Jalen Reagor and Kenedy Snell are two fast freshmen for 16th-ranked TCU. The high school teammates are already having an impact in college. In the last game, Snell turned a short pass into a 71-yard touchdown. And Reagor made a leaping catch in the end zone to put TCU ahead to stay for good against SMU. Coach Gary Patterson says the two will get more plays with the Horned Frogs. TCU's conference opener is Saturday at sixth-ranked Oklahoma State.

(AP) - Oklahoma State's high-flying offense is among the nation's best, and the guys up front have been a big part of its success. The sixth-ranked Cowboys rank third nationally in total offense with 607 yards per game and fourth nationally with 54 points per contest heading into their game against No. 16 TCU on Saturday.
