DEL RIO, Texas (AP) - A former first-grade teacher in South Texas caught with more than 1,100 sexually explicit images of children has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison. Ruben Vazquez last summer was convicted of receipt of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and access with intent to view child pornography. Vazquez was placed on leave by the San Felipe Independent School District and later fired.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - An American Red Cross disaster supplies warehouse in North Texas has the distinction of being the group's biggest facility to serve the most people. A spokeswoman says the site in Arlington being dedicated today has 174,000 square feet of space. The location has a larger supply of products that any other Red Cross location.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - CPS Energy is warning Texans to watch out for scammers after 100 rain jackets with company logos were stolen from a warehouse. The company says the jackets, tools, clothing and other items were taken from an apparel vendor. CPS Energy is offering a $2,500 reward for the return of the jackets. CPS Energy says its employees always wear a badge with a photo and employee number.
NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - The decommissioned USS Saratoga aircraft carrier is set to be hauled away from Rhode Island and brought to Texas to be scrapped. A crew with Esco Marine is scheduled to tow the carrier out of Naval Station Newport today and take it to its ship recycling plant in Brownsville. The company plans to make money by selling what it recovers from the ship.
