COPPERAS COVE - Copperas Cove is looking to pass a sweeping overhaul of its Animal Control ordinances.
The City Council is expected to approve 12 pages of updates to its animal policies.
Their expected vote comes in the wake of animal cruelty charges that have rocked Coryell County in recent months.
An ad-hoc committee that worked on the new ordinances hopes they can prevent future acts of cruelty.
"If it's not in writing, it goes between the cracks," said Robyn Bandinel, a member of the committee. "If it goes between the cracks, there's nothing anybody can do. That's why this is so vital."
Violations will be more specific and will come with larger fines.
The ad-hoc committee is also pushing for easier access to low-cost spay and neutering for low-income families in Copperas Cove.
