Dr. John Shelton graduated from Southern Arkansas University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1993, Summa Cum Laude. He received his medical degree with honors from Texas A&M University College of Medicine in 1997 and completed his residency with the McLennan County Family Practice Center in 2000. He has received numerous honors and awards throughout his college and professional career including SAU Football Letterman Award, Presidential Academic Scholarship, Student Foundation Scholarship, Alpha Chi National Honor Society, Tri Beta Biology Honor Society, Crane Academic Award of Excellence, SAU Outstanding Student Award and the Outstanding Student in Family Medicine Class of
1997. In additon to his most recent professional role as Family Physician for Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, he has served in several extracurricular activities including student representative for the Internal Medicine Curriculum Committee; the scheduling co-chair for Martha's Free Health Clinic; the Continuing Quality Insurance Committee and the Patient Education Committee for the American Cancer Society. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
