Games of Texas to celebrate opening ceremony in Waco


WACO - Central Texas residents are invited to join in the festivities of the opening ceremony of The Games of Texas on Friday at 8 p.m. in Indian Spring Park.

Established in 1986, The Games of Texas is an amateur athletic sports festival which provide a forum for training and competition among the state's Olympic hopefuls, as well as youth and adult recreational athletes.

The Games will take place between August 5 - 8 and feature 11 state championships held at several of Waco's top sports venues.

The free event on Friday will feature a Parade of Athletes, Fireworks, and a performance by the Dallas Mavericks Drumline.

The City of Waco Parks and Recreation Department has hosted the Games of Texas six times, which is more than any other city. The 2011 Games of Texas will also take place in Waco.
