Gate temporarily closed on Fort Hood

by Lauren Keeffe

FORT HOOD - Guards discovered a live munition round during a random vehicle search on Fort Hood Wednesday, prompting the temporary closing of Clarke gate around 9:15 a.m.

News Channel 25 has learned the vehicle was inbound and contained a Mark Nineteen 40 millimeter automatic grenade launcher round.

The driver of the vehicle was a Fort Hood soldier who would have had access to the round in regular duty. The soldier was sent back to his unit for possible disciplinary action.

The gate was reopened an hour later and the incident remains under investigation.
