Update 8:16 ARMY: 12 killed, 31 injured.

Update 8:15 ARMY: Single gunman, he is in custody, not dead as previously reported; suspect is hospitalized.

Update 7:35 From Scott & White "Scott & White Memorial Hospital has received 10 gunshot victims from Fort Hood. All patients are adults. No other transfers are expected to arrive at Scott & White in Temple or at any of Scott & White locations. Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple is no longer open to the public as we focus our attention upon the victims and their families and to insure the safety of our patients and staff."

Update 6:41 From Scott & White Hospital "Scott & White Memorial Hospital has received 10 gunshot victims from Fort Hood. All patients are adults. No other victims are expected to arrive at Scott & White in Temple or at any of Scott & White locations. The Scott & White Memorial Hospital is closed to routine visitors, but the Emergency Department is OPEN to receive patients from the community. Donations for blood are being accepted at Memorial Hospital on 31st Street in Temple."

Update 6:38 News Channel 25's Henry Rosoff is reporting Nidal Malik Hasan's neighbors who say Hasan was giving away all of his furniture and copies of the Qu' ran Thursday morning. They also say he was supposed to deploy to Afghanistan in the coming days.

Update 5:35 From the Red Cross:
"The American Red Cross is ensuring that the blood supply is at the needed capacity to support tragedies such as the incident at Ft. Hood, Texas. We are hosting a blood drive today from 5:30 p.m. until 11:30 PM and will reopen again tomorrow morning at 8 am. Those wishing to donate can do so at 4224 Cobbs Drive (next to the National Guard Armory), Waco Texas 76710."

Update 5:26 News Channel 25's Natasha Chen has learned the suspected shooter Maj. Malik Hasan had "Allah" keyed into his car last week. He reported it as a hate crime.

Update: 5:25 We're waiting for the latest updates from Fort Hood at a 5:45 press conference.

Update 5:22 Scott & White released the following statement "Scott & White Memorial Hospital has received 9 gunshot victims from Fort Hood. More are expected No specifics are known regarding the incident resulting in the shootings. At this time the victims coming to Scott and White are suffering from wounds. We have nothing else at this time. All patients are adults.

All Scott & White facilities remain open and Scott & White hospital operations are continuing. The Emergency Department however, is NOT accessible to visitors at this time."

Update 5:18 A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at First Memorial Baptist Church at 4001 Trammier Road.

Update 5:17 Belton ISD students are now home.

Update 5:15 Metroplex Adventist Hospital received seven of the victims. One was under distress in route to the hospital and was later pronounced dead. Two are currently in surgery, one of which is an EMS paramedic.  Four have been stabilized. Two were transferred to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple and two have been transferred to Seton in Round Rock. 

Update 5:10 Temple ISD has canceled after school activities and sporting events.

Update 5:09 AP & ABC reporting shooting suspect , Maj Malik Hasan was a Army mental health professional who was preparing to deploy.

Update 4:56 Fort Hood is still on lockdown.

Update 4:53 Scott & White Hospital reports it has 9 soldiers who were transferred from Darnall Army Hospital; 4 are in operating rooms, 5 are in the ER for evaluation, 10 are on the way from Darnall to Scott & White. Scott & White is making accommodations for all of the families. Patients who were already at Scott & White are being rearranged.

Update 3:25 First release form the Army reports shooting happened at Soldier's Readiness Processing Center and Howze Theatre. It reads "Department of Emergency Services officials confirmed at approximately 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5 that more than one shooter fired shots into the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center and Howze Theater on Fort Hood."

Emergency personnel have responded to the scene and evacuated several wounded.

FORT HOOD - At least one gunman has killed 12 soldiers and injured at least 31 others Thursday afternoon on Fort Hood. Police on post then shot and injured the gunman, identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army mental health professional who was preparing to deploy to Afghanistan.

Lt. Gen Bob Cone said at a news conference one suspect is dead and two are in custody. He indicated the primary suspect used two handguns in the attack. Officials are asking people to stay inside away from windows.

The shooting started around 1:30 p.m. at the Soldiers' readiness center; an area used for medical screening for troops who are about to deploy or have just returned home. Darnall Army Community Hospital reports they have received numerous victims. The spokeswoman could not confirm what types of injuries the victims were suffering.

Schools on Lock Down

  • Temple ISD Schools Have Been locked down as part of this incident. The district's spokeswoman tells News Channel 25 Temple Police placed officers at each TISD campus. Students were dismissed as usual; all after school sporting events have been canceled.
  • Belton ISD is on Lockdown
  • Killeen ISD has received word from Fort Hood that the lock down has been lifted. Students will be dismissed to parents. All parents must go to the campus and pick up their student. Students will only be dismissed to parents/guardians who sign them out. No student will walk home or ride a bus.
