What is a Hospitalist?

In 2005, McLennan County Hospitalist Services implemented its Hospitalist program to provide optimal hospital care.  This special group of physicians, called Hospitalists, have partnered with the Providence to provide excellent and compassionate patient care.

Once a patient is admitted to Providence, the primary or emergency physician may contact the Hospitalists to manage the patient's care during their hospital stay. The Hospitalist will coordinate and consult with the patient's primary care physician and other specialists, closely monitor a patient's progress, and stay in close touch with the patient and their family.

Hospitalists provide coverage 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, visit patients throughout the day to monitor progress, review test results, and order treatments.  Their ready availability within the hospital and comprehensive patient care can result in shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery.
