BELTON - A boating trip on Lake Belton went horribly wrong when the boat capsized Tuesday night, leaving one person dead.

Dustin Lay, who lives nearby, says he ran to the scene after hearing screams coming from the lake.  When he arrived, he said two people made it out of the water, and two more people were slowly swimming to shore. Lay said the survivors told him their boat capsized near the dam, leaving them stranded.

Bell County Sheriff's Office and Belton Fire Department were called to the scene.

One survivor was airlifted to Scott & White hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Authorities have confirmed that one man died from his injuries.

Another man is still missing. The search for him was put on hold Tuesday night, and will continue Wednesday morning. Authorities say he could still be in the water, or on land on the other side of the lake.

Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Pritchard said the water's temperature was around 56 degrees, which can cause hypothermia within an hour.
