TEMPLE - The City of Temple is officially dropping Temple-based Scott & White healthcare insurance.
In a city council meeting Thursday evening, the City of Temple Employee Benefits Trustees decided to move to a self-funded insurance plan for its employees with third party administration from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas.
Of the proposals received, the lowest cost for remaining fully insured was submitted by the Scott & White Health Plan, but that proposal represented a 46 percent increase in cost to the city and its employees. Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas submitted the best value for a self-funded insurance plan.
The city will continue to offer to its employees the use of Scott & White facilities and doctors as part of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield network.
This self-funded plan will take effect on October 1.
