ORANGE, Texas (AP) - A Southeast Texas teacher has been indicted for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student at her middle school.
Jennifer Lea Burton is a teacher and coach at Orangefield Junior High School near Orange.
An Orange County grand jury on Wednesday indicted the 39-year-old educator on three counts of sexual assault and 3 of improper relationship between a teacher and a student.
Prosecutors say says the relationship spanned two months last year.
Officials had no record of an attorney for Burton on Thursday. The second-degree felonies are punishable by probation to 20 years in prison.
Orangefield school Superintendent Philip Welch says Burton is on leave pending a special board meeting next week.
