Entire Town Going to Vegas!

By Eric Gemmell

CRANFILLS GAP - One hundred Cranfills Gap residents will be headed to Sin City next weekend for a new ad campaign paid for by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

"We searched the entire country and ended up finding Cranfills Gap," said Doug Finelli who represents LVCVA.

The criteria, find the most unique all American town in all of the 50 states, then send all the residents free of charge to Las Vegas with a film crew for the city's new ad campaign.

But the idea to send residents to Sin City Was no easy sell.

"They're thinking we're selling time shares,  con them into something.  We're here to find interesting people and reward them," said Justin Corsbie, who is filming and creating a documentary on the trip.

Cranfills Gap City Council Member Ron Hubbard had to decline the invitation to Vegas due to a family commitment.

"I had the chance to go, I've been to Vegas.  I left nothing there I need to go back and pick up."

Yet Sandi Carlson, owner of the Horny Toad Bar and Grill cleared her calendar.

"This is exciting! Everybody from Gap going."

Residents add they're looking forward to their 15 minutes of fame; it could even put the town on the map.

"With that national recognition, maybe people will come visit, see what we're all about," said Hubbard.

The national ad campaign is expected to hit the screen early next year.
