KILLEEN - It's the worst thing you could see on your utility bill: an extra seven hundred dollar charge from an address where you've never lived, and your power company refuses to believe your story. It's another identity theft case in Central Texas that's left Trissina Neal without electricity, wondering what she can do next.
TXU told her the charges were racked up from nonpayment of charges from May to August of this year at an address in Killeen.
The only problem? Neal had never lived in that house and had the current lease to prove it.
But when she tried to show TXU the lease, they just said that she probably had moved.
Neal even got a police report stating that she was a victim of identity theft, but so far TXU isn't budging, and it's taking a toll on Neal. "It's almost Thanksgiving and it's hurting my feelings but ain't nothing i can do about it if that's how it's going to be treated from their side."
TXU would not comment on individual cases. Wednesday afternoon, Neal's power was shut off due to nonpayment.
