CRAWFORD - The presidential wedding isn't the only big happening in town this weekend and hotel rooms are quickly filling up. Some area residents are hoping to cash in by offering a very short term lease.
Baylor graduation is also coming up, and a large technology convention expected to bring in around 3500 people and guests arriving for the presidential nuptials has made finding an open hotel room a hard task.
"We decided it might be fun to advertise for loft rooms here, available for Jenna's wedding," said Milton Talbert. His China Spring loft is for rent and includes three beds, a bathroom and a view of what Talbert calls a real Texas ranch.
"It would be nice for some family that might have actually been on a Texas ranch to come for the weekend and take it all in," said Talbert.
But taking it all in will come at a price, $300 a night at Talbert's loft. And other people are hoping guests will rent their homes as well. A large four bedroom home is for rent for the hefty price though of 1000 dollars; and another loft advertised for 75-dollars a night.
Talbert he says although he's hoping someone will rent his loft at, he's not doing all of it it for the money.
"It's a neighborly thing to do. We thought it might be good to participate in some way," said Talbert.
Just having placed it ad on the popular online classified, craigslist Wednesday night, the ranch loft hasn't been rented yet. But Talbert has his hopes.
"There's a lot of bed and breakfast activity cropping around the county; even though it's not a bed and breakfast, it's the next best thing," said Talbert.
Another woman who advertised her loft apartment near McGregor told me she's already contacted hotels around the area. If they get full, she told them send people her way.
