Waco non-profit brings Christmas cheer to needy children

WACO- Christmas came early for some Waco children and families after they got a special visit from Santa Claus Saturday afternoon.

Old Saint Nick flew into Waco by helicopter Saturday and was greeted by a huge group of children eager to give him a hug.

The event was put on by a non-profit called The Waco Goodfellas, which is a group of local business owners that decided to come together to help bring Christmas to children who are less fortunate.

The group started 19 years ago and has a total of 50 members who the group's President Brad Wilson says aren't planning on leaving anytime soon.

"It's definitely a tear jerker, bunch of grown men out here crying like babies, so it's something that we're very proud of. Most of us, the core group of us have been a part of it for 19 plus years," said Wilson.

Goodfellas has partnered up with Outback Steakhouse for the past eight years to provide free meals to the families and this year they fed more than 50 families on Saturday alone.

Wilson says all the children will get the presents they put on their "wish lists" and the group has raised more than $30,000 for presents for the children.
