Update: The attorney for Baylor stand out LaceDarius Dunn said Thursday that the university has suspended the star guard from attending classes.

This suspension arises amid allegations that he hit his girlfriend during a domestic dispute last week.

Attorney Vikram Deivanayagam said Thursday night that the university was following procedure for a student facing a felony charge.

He added it was too early to tell whether Dunn would miss the rest of the semester, which would sideline him for the first part of the season.

WACO The girlfriend of Baylor basketball star LaceDarius Dunn denied Wednesday that he hit her, and she has now appealed to authorities to drop the aggravated assault charge.

In a statement through her attorney, Lacharlesla Edwards said:

"My family and I are deeply disturbed about the misinformation and half truths that are being reported by media regarding the incident with my boyfriend (LaceDarious Dunn). He has never struck me during our long term relationship. What happened on the night of September 27 was an accident and I went to the hospital for precautionary reasons. I never expressed any interest in pressing charges nor will I in the future press charges on this incident. I am fine and my jaw is not broken as is being reported. My family and I wish to put this situation behind us. Lace and I will continue our relationship and raising our son in a good environment.  I respectfully request that the District Attorney's Office dismiss these charges, and further request that Baylor University lift their suspension."

On Tuesday, Dunn turned himself in to police after a warrant had been issued for his arrest for allegedly breaking the 21-year-old Edwards' jaw on Sept 27 during an argument.

Edwards was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center with both sides of her jaw broken, but she said on Wednesday that it was an accident.

According to the arrest affidavit, she was spitting blood and couldn't move her mouth.  Emergency surgery was reportedly performed and two metal plates were inserted to stabilize her jaw, but she denies that it was actually broken.

Dunn and Edwards have a 3-year old child together and says he never hit her during their long-term relationship.

"What happened on the night of Sept. 27 was an accident and I went to the hospital for precautionary reasons,'' she said. "I never expressed any interest in pressing charges, nor will I in the future press charges on this incident.''

Jason Darling, Edwards' attorney also said she never wanted to the press charges.

"First off, she thought that injuries were not as bad as reported in the arrest affidavit, she's been with him for 10 years," he told News Channel 25. "They have a child together, she thought they could handle this internally in the family."

The basketball star is charged with Aggravated Assault, Family Violence. He turned himself in Tuesday afternoon, but was out on $12,500 bond several hours later.

Authorities made the call to file charges against the 6'4" senior guard.

News Channel 25 spoke briefly with Dunn outside his apartment Tuesday night, he wouldn't answer any questions, just saying that "He's good."

In a written statement, his lawyer said he looks forward to reviewing the file and working with the District Attorney's office.

Edwards' father Charles told Sports Illustrated his daughter never had a broken jaw and he saw her laughing and giggling days after the attack.

Edwards is back in Louisiana with her family and, as News Channel 25 was told, has had no contact with Dunn.

"[ Edwards] wants contact with Lace, she wants to get this behind them and she wants him to be the father of their child," Darling said.

Baylor Basketball Head Coach Scott Drew says Dunn has been indefinitely suspended from all team activities.

Dunn was listed on a number of pre-season All-American lists and needed 451 points this year to become Baylor's all-time leading scorer, passing Terry Teagle.

The university says it is working to gather all of the facts surrounding this incident.

Baylor will have no further comment on the matter until more information is available.
