Ken Starr Inaugurated as Baylor's President

by Ann Harder

WACO - With pomp and ceremony, Judge Ken Starr became Baylor University's president on Friday. There have only been 14 presidents in the university's 165 year history.

Thousands of alumni, faculty, students and well-wishers filled the Ferrell Center to mark the historic day.

President Starr was formally welcomed to the position by representatives of the university and community.

Professor Stephen L. Carter of Yale Law School brought the Inaugural Address and praised Starr as the "model of civility in his dealings with his fellow man, " adding that he exemplifies the great virtues of democracy:  tolerance, patience, dialogue, and respect for others."

In his remarks, President Starr recognized the rich history of Baylor and its Christian commitment to academic excellence in a caring community.
