CENTRAL TEXAS - A number of agencies are joining their resources to prevent auto thefts and burglaries in Central Texas.

Many car break-ins are due to drivers simply forgetting to lock their vehicles, or leaving the key inside, making it easy for burglars.

Now, the Insurance Council of Texas and the Heart of Texas Auto Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority will be distributing signs to businesses throughout Central Texas to remind people to lock their cars, take their keys, and hide their possessions.

"You'll see this up high, up 20 feet in the air," says Mark Hanna, of Insurance Council of Texas. "So people can see it from 100 yards away. Its going to be a point where they're going to see it so often, they'll think I know what this sign says, its a reminder."

The agencies say this program was implemented in Dallas 10 years ago with positive results.
