WACO - Baylor University officials announced the school's new president Tuesday afternoon.

Both supporters and a small group of protesters gathered to greet Kenneth Starr, Baylor's 14th president.

Those who spent a year carefully selecting a leader say they've taken a giant leap forward for the university in selecting Starr.

During a speech, Starr outlined his vision of the university's future. He also greeted the faculty and students, even those who disagree with him.

"Students. That's what it's all about. That's why the faculty come together. The faculty come together to breed conversation and discovery," said Starr.

Still, some were not welcoming, including Ryatt Yates.

"I can't deal ethically with going to a university whose president supported Blackwater, which has committed numerous human rights violations since the beginning of the Iraq War," said Yates.
