BELLMEAD - A one-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after she was attacked by her family dog Wednesday night.
It happened at around 9:00 p.m. She sustained scratches and bites to her face, arms and chest, a neighbor said. That neighbor said he didn't know how the attack started but he heard the commotion and ran to their house. He ripped the dog off of the little girl and threw it into a fenced off yard area.
The girl was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and police said her injuries did not appear to be life threatening. News Channel 25's camera was the only one rolling when animal control came for the dog.
It took the dog catcher three tries to safely put the animal into a cage. Police stood by preparing to draw their guns on the animal if it escaped.
News Channel 25 will continue to follow up with the family and report on the condition of the girl as details become available.
